A memória é uma das funções cerebrais mais valorizadas na vida, se não fosse por nossa capacidade de memorizar informações e acontecimentos, todos os nossos dias seriam iguais, pois não conseguiríamos acumular conhecimentos e nem evoluir psiquicamente. Cotidianamente, o nosso cérebro é bombardeado por uma quantidade absurda de informações e, a todo o momento, necessitamos lembrar de alguma coisa: senhas; prazos; datas importantes; providências do cotidiano; compromissos; o nome de pessoas (bem que as pessoas podiam nos poupar de constrangimentos e não perguntar você lembra de mim?). É muita coisa pra lembrar!

A memória se encontra espalhada pelo cérebro em forma de circuito, que são modulados pelos neurotransmissores e são liberadas através de sinapses, portanto é através de uma função cerebral que nosso cérebro escolhe os fatos que merecem ser armazenados e lembrados. Nossa memória é seletiva e essa seleção é feita levando em conta o que nos chamou a atenção por considerarmos importante e por ter nos emocionado – se a gente lembrasse de tudo que acontecesse na vida da gente, se a nossa memória não fosse seletiva, a gente enlouqueceria, pois não há espaço no nosso cérebro para guardar tanta informação.

 O tempo todo, mesmo sem nos darmos conta, estamos selecionando dados, descartando o que não nos interessa e abrindo espaço em nosso cérebro para novas informações. Receber a informação, memorizar e aprender fazem parte de um mesmo processo cerebral e determinam o nosso caminhar na vida. Via de regra, o que determina o que vamos guardar em nossa memória, o que vai ficar em nossa vida como estória é determinada pela emoção que esse fato ou acontecimento mobilizou em nós: o que nos emociona nós lembramos e isso funciona tanto para os acontecimentos felizes e prazerosos, como para os episódios que nos marcam pela dor e pela tristeza; a verdade é que o que é importante fica memorizado e vira lembrança.

                Muita gente se queixa de que na vida tudo ficou urgente, que elas não podem perder tempo e vivem angustiadas com o excesso de informações e, acredita que para ter sucesso elas precisam ficar plugadas a tudo o que acontece, não largam mão do celular, estão sempre ligadas nas redes sociais e, por conta disso, deixam de viver o prazer e produzir boas lembranças que vão permanecer em sua vida.
